On Thursday 8th May,
Hixon will join in with events around the Country to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the ending of the World War 2 in Europe (VE Day). At 9am in the morning a special flag will be raised on the Millennium Green and a VE Day proclamation read out. This will be replicated at hundreds of locations throughout the UK.
At 8pm on the 8th of May, we return to Hixon Millennium Green to countdown to the lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm. During this time, we will acknowledge the roles and sacrifices that animals played during the war years, both at home and overseas. On a lighter note, music and images from the 1940s will be projected onto a big screen and there will be a look back to 1995, when Hixon celebrated the 50th anniversary of VE Day. There will be a tear-jerking finale after the beacon is lit.
On Saturday 10th of May,
Hixon Millennium Green will host a traditional village fete (with some unusual twists), live music, classic car show, craft stalls, book stall and, of course, a Tombola stand.
More information to follow over the coming weeks.
